Herb Brooks

Being Cut

Picture
In 1960, Herb Brooks tried out for the Olympic Hockey team.  He was twenty-two years old at the time when he was trying out.  Ten days before the Olympic games Brooks was cut from the team.  He watched on television with his father the games  he wished he would've been a part of.  When Brooks saw the US team win the gold medal, he looked for his dad for a bit of sympathy.  His father responded with, "Looks like Coach cut the right guy."  That particular saying is what ignited Herb Brooks to change his mentality on the game of hockey.  Brooks was a dreamer, and when he sat on that couch with his father he dreamt that he was a part of that US Olympic gold medal team.  Brooks knew that dreams were difficult to make them come true, but dreams are obtainable if you believe.  Being cut from the Olympic Team could've been the best thing that happened to him, because without it he would've not learned that valuable lesson about dreams.
