In 1981 after coaching the USA hockey team to an Olympic gold Herb Brooks took a job coaching the New York Rangers NHL team. Herb turned the mediocre hockey team into a playoff bound hockey team in his first season. He was later named to coach of the year by Sporting News. He lead the team to a record of 39-27-14. Later years brooks coached were not as well and was fired in 1985 with an overall record of 131-113-41. He then went on to coach the Minnesota North Stars from 1987-1988, the New Jersey Devils in 1992 and the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1999-2000. In 1990 Herb Brooks was named into the US Hockey Hall of Fame.
